If the developer is highly committed to it, I'll admit there are some advantages with keeping the userbase invested for longer times and offering more opportunities to fine tune particular elements based on user experience. Nintendo did a decent job of it with Splatoon, though the criticisms of it being unfinished at launch were still valid.
With other developers who have poor histories with releasing buggy and poorly testes games (Hi Ubisoft) I just see this as a gateway for very bad things. Hopefully Capcom will set another example of how to do this correctly.
Still Birdie and R Mika returned so that's a good thing. And I do like most of the new characters. Only Rashid seems like a weak attempt of an idea. Anyway should be a lot of fun... one day.
This is going to sound weird, but the 16 characters in this game so far represent more diversity in play than the 44 of Ultra Street Fighter.
If you lump the Shoto-like characters like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Dan, Sakura, Oni, Evil Ryu, Gouken and (sort of) Sagat together... they all represent a very similar style. Most of 4's roster can be categorized that way.
With the exception of Ryu and Ken, most of Five's characters play dramatically different.
The fact that they are stressing diversity over roster size makes it looks like the game is offering less, but chances are, you're going to want to try a few of the characters out.
Even returning guys and gals don't play exactly as you would expect. Vega and Nash make this abundantly clear!
I really want to see how this continues the story line of Street Fighter leading up to the appearance of Gill in SFIII.
If I'm not mistaken, Akuma has not been mentioned as appearing in the game yet right? Very curious...

I just want to have Gill back. Fuck the haters, he's my favorite fighting game boss of all time.
Well, Urien is in. Can Gill be far behind?

I said a looong time ago these two are related to this guy:

I think he's the bridge between 4 and 3. With Juri still in V, that means SIN is involved too and somehow, I think, these three HAVE TO be related.

Neither is Evil Ryu, but he's related to Necali's story. Just because there are DLC characters coming, that doesn't mean there aren't any hidden characters. There used to be special conditions required to get Evil Ryu and Akuma to appear... You never know...!

Don't forget Shen Long and Dan. Those were special condition fights too. Though for the life of me I don't remember how Dan got triggered in Alpha anymore. I think you had to keep some buttons pressed down. But secret characters would be great. There really hasn't been a good one in the series for a while (who wasn't automatically selectable and therefore not much of a secret).
And I'd also suspected that Seth was somehow tied into Urien and Gill. Still Seth was pretty unpopular so I think Capcom was wise enough to leave him behind. In the comics Juri actually turns on him in order to get Bison to trust her (she's got some vendetta against Bison apparently), and I don't think he really showed up much again. And lately there's been a lot tighter connection between the comics and the game (i.e. inclusion of Decapre who originated in the comics), so they may be going that route again.
Even worse though, if the Seth/ Urien & Gill connection is there, that means this schlub might show up too:
People have been very vocal about a lack of content in the game. While I can see where they are coming from...
**The Story Mode in the game right now is really just 4 fights using each character. These have hand-drawn, voiced, story-board stills that serve as Prologues for the actual Story Mode coming in June. These are probably about 10 minutes per character.**
...I still have been playing all day and night, VERY happily!
I got hooked on Nash immediately, which is odd because typically when I start a Street Fighter, I need to learn using a Shoto. I've finished Survival Mode on Easy with him and am now working on Normal.
All day. One character. Only one Online Battle to speak of. I don't really see a problem here...
Oh crap, that reminded me that there is a connection between Abel and Charlie. Dammit he is coming back...
Is there a connection between Abel and Nash? I speculated for a long time at the launch of Street Fighter IV that Abel was Nash with amnesia... Obviously that's not true --but-- HOW are they related?
Check this out. It's from over SEVEN years ago!
I had no recollection, but, apparently, Street Fighter IV came out the 17th of February, 2009!
6 years, 364 days later...
It comes from the comic book, and I believe it might have been reiterated in Street Fighter X Tekken when Guile and Abel team up. Anyway, Abel tells Guile that the man who rescued him was able to use the Sonic Boom and had other similar fighting moves. So since it wasn't Guile... However, the timeline isn't entirely clear though on when Abel escapes, so assuming it was Charlie it could have been before he fought in the the SFA tournament or maybe it was after he "died." Or hell, maybe it was Remy?
Again, comic book canon and game canon are not entirely the same, but they're being merged closer and closer together.
